As part of the Kamiskotia Strategic Plan going forward, we have identified that in order to grow we must get organized. We need to know what we want and go after it. In order to accomplish these goals we have developped a group of committees that will address specific areas of the strategic plan. Please review the committees below and see if there are any areas you think you could be of help. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Our Goal: “First Hill Open, Last Hill Closed”
Snowmaking Committee
- The snowmaking committee will oversee the development and aquisition of a NEW snowmaking system. Kam has identified that snowmaking is a major pilar in our strategic plan going forward. If we are to obtain our goal of “First Hill Open, Last Hill Closed” we will need to upgrade and improve our overall snowmaking operations. We are looking for individuals who can offer guidance and resources in order to put in place such a system.
Fundraising Committee
- Kamiskotia is in the middle of a major Strategic Plan. In this plan there has been some big ticket items that have come up as ideas to grow our products and services at the hill. Here are some of the items we will be fundraising for:
- Snowmaking Equipment
- New equipment will allow Kamiskotia to blow snow in warmer conditions which means we could start blowing earlier, it also would allow us to blow snow more efficiently which means savings on Hydro bill.
- Magic Carpet System
- The Magic Carpet System is a perfect system for beginners. We understand that at Kamiskotia we do not have what you would call a true Bunny System where people can learn to ski comfortably and safely. The system would be put in between the Sissy Schuss and the Tube Park, and would allow skiers and tubers to use the lift back to the top of the hill. This project would also allow us
- New Groomer
- Kamiskotia has in recent years aquired a New to Us Groomer. Although this has proven to be a great machine, it does have many hours on it, and currently we are operating with only the one groomer. We are going to need a more reliable longterm solution to our grooming system.
- Rental Fleet
- Our rental fleet has reached a point where we need to start planning to turn it over to newer more up to date equipment. We also need to make our fleet bigger, there are currently 120 sets available to rent. This number hurts our ability to host more school programs during the winter months. We need to get closer to 200 sets to meet the demand for school programs. It also would allow us to run more introductory programs in large numbers.
- Chalet Upgrades
- Our chalet could use some upgrading, and one thought was to look at adding more seating capacity. This could involve expansion, or even adding a mezanine. There are a few ideas on the table and this could be discussed in more detail within the committees.
Special Events Committee
- Kamiskotia is all about keeping the fun times going. Special events are a big part of that. Many of our special events are used to raise funds for particular projects, but all in all we need to organize entertaining events because it brings more traffic and attention to the hill. These events when done well generate great buzz and are great economic generators for the hill. There are infinite possibilities for Special Events, theme days, men’s and ladies nights, Nuit Blanche, Halloween Night, Biggest Easter Egg Hunt in the North?, 24-Hour Ski-A-Thon.
2015 Winter Carnival Committee
- Timmins is just craving it’s own Winter Carnival. Kamiskotia wants to be the leader in developing a true Timmins Winter Carnival. The ski hill is the perfect place to host a large winter carnival event. We can do so much with our property and the opportunities are endless. Put your thinking caps and and let’s put togehter the biggest Winter Carnival the North has ever seen.
Summer Maintenance Committee
- Every summer the hill needs maintenance. There are so many things we can do to prepare our hill over the summer so that we don’t have to do so much snow management in the winter. First thing that comes to mind for most is brushcutting, but there are other items that require attention as well. There are projrects that can be worked on and need to be worked on. This is where we need your help.
Chalet Decor Committee
- The Kamiskotia Chalet is a beautiful building, but it needs help looking pretty some days. We could use help from those who have an eye for decor, but also those who would like to help preserve our history. There are also always items that require attention and upgrades, we could use your help identifying and organizing these projects.
Terrain Park Committee
- The Terrain Park is an area that requires specific attention, not everybody is going to be able to use the park due to their skill level. It takes a dedicated group of freestyle enthusiasts to dream up the look and feel of this park. It also will take a group of people to actually put the plan in place, do the work required in the summer/ fall to get this park up and running. If you want to see the Terrain Park grow to what we all want it to be, then this is the committee you want to be a part of. Help us build and maintain the park of you’ver always wanted.
